On the Monday, March 8, 2021 show we will talk about Josh Baer’s Texas Startup Manifesto 2.0. Recently Josh and Mike Maples had an ATX clubhouse which went from zero to 3,000 plus participants in 5 minutes. On stage were Michael Dell, Bob (“ethernet”) Metcalf, Josh Baer, Mike Maples, Mayor Steve Adler, and more.

How can this be?

Austin, for its part, is not experiencing a pandemic-induced tech worker surge. Last year, Austin was gaining 2.06 tech workers for every one that left; now it’s down to 1.84, a drop of 10.78%. Though Austin is still gaining tech workers this year, the notion that 2020 was a watershed year for tech workers moving there is a myth.

Austin’s Richest Man in the World

The wealthiest man in the world is also a new Austin resident. Having surpassed Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos who is currently worth approximately $184 billion, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk now has a net worth of over $185 billion. At the start of 2020, Musk was worth about $27 billion. His new status as the world’s richest person can be attributed to the rising share price of his automotive company. [CNBC]

Two of Austin’s newest residents: Joe Rogan and Elon Musk.
